The Leys Recreation Ground Play Area

The water park has 15 jets, weirs for making dams and a bridge and there is a forest hut for nappy and clothes changes.

Toddlers have some dedicated equipment of their own; an adventure tunnel and honeycomb springer, partner swings for swinging side by side with your best friend, a toddler nest swing and a rope and log swing.  The shallow end of the splash park is closest to the toddler play equipment area.

There is lots of equipment suitable for juniors with an amazing swing that has a ball joint meaning that the swing is multi directional and pivots, swings and tilts in all sorts of ways. There are junior swing bays with a variety of swings including a bird’s nest.

A zip wire, a tunnel that vanishes into a mound, a Supernova roundabout, a tepee village and a storytelling chair.

For the really daring there is Witney Towers! You are unlikely to have seen anything like this before as it is a bespoke item and the first of its kind. It’s super-high and full of challenges for all ages.

For quieter moments there is a peace garden and some edible walls and for nature lovers, a bug scope, squirrel and bird feeders and a bug hotel.

  1. Wow what a brilliant park and all for free! My six and three year old grandsons loved the water jets and fantastic play equipment. I loved the shady trees under which we could eat our picnic. There’s a cafe too which we didn’t try but nice to be able to get a hot drink or snack. Parking was difficult (we had no choice but to drive ) but a nice driver gave us his space. All in all, a great afternoon’s entertainment. No doubt we shall return maybe with skateboards or scooters next time.

  2. I took my two granddaughters to The Leys today, specifically to experience the ‘massive and majestic’ climbing tower. I suppose I shouldn’t have been surprised to find access to the upper level closed, nullifying the whole point of the thing. Presumably the Health and Safety gestapo have chalked up another victory, at the expense of children’s ability to weigh up risks for themselves. No wonder our kids are risk-averse snowflakes – the compensation culture and the legal profession driving it have a lot to answer for.

  3. Fab park & facilities. Very impressed with the cafe. Great selection of food and drinks. Very cheap crazy golf. Clean toilets with loo roll! We spent 5 hours here today. Kids are 5, 7 & 8.

  4. Great park for the kids with big fields to play in too. Parking can be tricky when the weather is good. The splash park is a nice touch too, although the tiny trickle of water coming from the jets (is there really supposed to be so little water?) was a disappointment. Kids enjoyed it nonetheless.

    1. My sources tell me that there was an issue with the facilities so the lack of water may actually be a fault rather than “the norm”. Glad the kids had a good time 🙂

  5. Best park we have been to in a long time. Loads for all ages and even in October the water fountains were fully operational. Only downside is lack of parking.

  6. Great park for all ages with lots of facilities. The Witney Towers was a highlight – as were the water-jets (must remember to take a spare set of clothes next time!).

We didn’t use it but there was a café just outside the main play area (as well as crazy golf, a skate-park and lots of open fields to play on).
